Classes & Fees
Class Structure
New swimmers typically begin with one hour of training per week, usually in our beginner Mermaid class. As they advance within the club, swimmers can choose between recreational and competitive pathways, with extended training sessions and additional lessons introduced as needed.
Club sessions are held four days a week—Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday—primarily at Baywave Aquatic Centre. In preparation for competitions, swimmers may also train at other local pools equipped with deeper dive wells.
Artistic swimming is a year-round sport, with breaks typically scheduled during school holidays unless a competition is approaching. Holiday workshops are often available for swimmers to participate in.
Progression
We run the ASNZ Star programme, which denotes the level and standards that individual girls have attained. All athletes start at Star 1 and can ultimately progress to Star 10.
Athletes have the opportunity to compete annually in the North Island, Inter-School, and New Zealand National Championships.
Artistic Swimming New Zealand selects swimmers with the potential to one day represent New Zealand to participate in development training camps, programs, and international competitions.
Fees
For beginners, the cost is approximately $150 per term. As swimmers advance through the levels, fees are based on their training level and the number of training days. For regular sessions, swimmers only require a one-piece swimsuit, goggles, a swim cap, and a nose clip, which can be purchased through the club.
Baywave also requires an entry fee. Concession cards are available, or unlimited entry for monthly admission fee / annual membership, which covers pool entry. Contact Baywave (07 577 8550) directly for more information.
Athlete Handbook
Our athlete handbook can be found here. It's an excellent resource with a wealth of information about the club, how our artistic swimming training works, competitions and club policies and rules.
